Portman Street Apartments

Portman Street Apartments was won through a City of Sydney design excellence competition.

The project is an apartment building at the southern perimeter of the future Green Square Town Centre. It is an important site that needs to mediate between future high density and retained low scale, between big and small, between new and old. Our approach to the site is subtractive rather than additive – a fully built block out of which we carve spaces for light and air. We are looking to give good definition to the street edge, to maximize the valuable perimeter, and for the building to feel like a coherent whole, rather than piecemeal. The massing strategy results in a predominance of corner apartments with excellent amenity.
