Mudgeeraba Aquatic Centre

The new aquatic centre at Mudgeeraba will be located within a sporting precinct on the Gold Coast floodplain, in a setting that is diffuse and scaleless. We have sought to create a destination – a ‘sanctuary’ raised above the 100-year flood level upon a landscaped plinth. It is a community centre in the true sense, fully accessible, a respite for all. A wind protected and party shaded central pool court, is surrounded by clearly defined activities – gym, change rooms, cafe, hydrotherapy, adjunct care – each adding to the sense of experience, creating an ‘alive’ atmosphere. Neeson Murcutt Architects was engaged by Complete Urban as sub-consultant Design Architects, overseeing sketch and concept design stages, and providing design input to the documentation.
