Kempsey Crescent Head Surf Life Saving Club

2016 AIA NSW Sulman Medal for Public Architecture

Crescent Head is a renowned surfing, fishing and swimming spot. The new building incorporates all the needs of a contemporary and sustainable surf club whilst improving seaside safety, with core surf life saving activities at ground floor and a function space above. It responds to whole of this extraordinary site with major openings addressing significant views – beachfront, headland, township, and creek. Its pitched roof and cut-away walls produce a sculpted form that is clad entirely in soft pipi shell glazed brick and tile pastels – beachy, sparkly and easy to maintain.
